Don’t Let These Content Marketing Myths Fool You in 2018

Content marketing strategies have transformed many businesses into market leaders with minimal investment. Even after so many success stories, there are still some misconceptions about content marketing that are preventing small businesses from moving forward.

Myth #1: Quantity is better than quality

Bombarding consumers with content is not going to get you anywhere except into their spam folders. The focus must be on creating readable, interactive and quality content that has a strong takeaway message. Be resourceful and useful for your consumers, and they will keep coming back for more. Moreover, they will become your brand ambassadors and refer you to their friends as well.

Plan content titles for the entire month ahead of time and work through them slowly, giving each idea the time to blossom organically.  When it comes to content, quality always wins over quantity.

Myth #2: Not all businesses can benefit from content marketing

Maybe you have a so-called “boring” business. For example, if your company sells printer ink cartridges, you may be stumped about how to craft interesting content for your audience. The first thing to do is to list out 10-20 frequent queries that you receive from customers as a printer ink cartridge company.

The next step is to use Google Adwords and search for keywords relating to these popular queries. One of the topics that pop up is “Printer ink cartridge refill”. Thus, your next article can be about where to get a refill, the price, and perhaps even steps on how to do it.

Remember your target audience is specifically searching for your services. Even if it doesn’t interest the general public, they will interest your readers who are looking to you for solutions.

Myth #3:  Content marketing is not expensive

This myth isn’t entirely untrue. Content marketing is cheap compared to printing, publishing and other modes of offline marketing. However, if you want quality content that resonates with your consumers, you cannot be a miser. Anyone can write content, but not everyone can write good content. The difference between employing a rookie and a seasoned content writer will be reflected in your site traffic and popularity: no doubt about it. The fact of the matter is that you get what you pay for.

Myth #4: Content marketing will resurrect your business overnight:

While it is a very effective method of marketing for your business, it is not going to give you immediate results. Patience and persistence is the key when it comes to content marketing, whether it is digital or offline. There is a lot of trial and error required in content marketing. However, the good news is that, especially with digital marketing, there are sophisticated ways you can measure your audience response rate. This will help you to fine-tune your marketing strategy for the next campaign or even tweak the current one. Moreover, you can measure the return on investment (ROI) by closely monitoring page views, downloads and conversion rates.

Myth #5: Consumers don’t like written content nowadays:

This myth is downright preposterous. People will always read, share, like, revere and refer others to content that they enjoyed themselves. It is true that millennials lead fast-paced lives and don’t always have time to read long articles. However, they do appreciate the handy information and engaging narratives that speak to their emotions. It is not without reason that 81% of marketers are planning to increase usage of written content.

Also, you have to keep in mind that content is not just in the written form. There are innumerable methods to hook your audience. Among these, videos are a great way to repurpose written content and get your message across effectively.

In 2018, there is a new innovation or a change in consumer trend every single day. Content marketing strategies need to evolve accordingly, to remain relevant, and reach the target audience before the competition does. In order to do that, we need to deconstruct and break the myths that revolve around content marketing, to clear the path for your business to grow. Don’t get stuck in a rut. Research in-depth and find out what other successful businesses are doing right. Chances are that their content marketing strategies will work for your business too.
